Sarah Ross Millinery

Oxshott Home Studio- by appointment

Meet Sarah Ross; a Surrey-based milliner who designs and crafts exquisite, excitingly stand-out hats and headpieces for all occasions and all seasons. Sarah’s eponymous brand celebrates timeless designs with a touch of individuality. Before embarking on her millinery career, Sarah worked as an occupational therapist,
“I specialised in sculpting splints for hand injuries, I now marry these sculptural techniques with traditional millinery skills to create bespoke masterpieces for my clients.”

Sarah studied millinery at Kensington & Chelsea College with Jo Miller, and in 2018 was shortlisted for the Design Award of The Worshipful Company of Felt Makers in London. A lifelong love of oil painting has, without doubt fed into the creative process of designing something truly artistic and special.

Working with many esteemed and established milliners, Sarah’s unique style has evolved, and she is now much in demand for her bespoke creations, excellence, and quality. Her bespoke brand has grown and flourished through word of mouth; she creates contemporary and classic designs ensuring that her hats can be worn and admired for many years and handed down or passed on to friends.

Ever mindful of sustainability, Sarah uses traditional and new performance fabrics to create her hats and headpieces.

“I like to use Sinamay, it is a durable natural plant-based fabric made in the Philippines from the Abaca tree. The fabric is woven entirely by hand and without the use of fossil fuels. Provenance is also important to me, and I purchase my raw materials from ethical and sustainable suppliers “

Other sustainability initiatives include up-cycling. “I can re-shape, resize and repair hats to suit your requirements. I also offer a hire service, which means you can have a unique designer look for a fraction of the price.”
